Where Are Goldbacks Accepted?

Goldbacks are the world's first voluntary local currency made of real gold — and acceptance is growing. Hundreds of businesses across the country take Goldbacks directly as payment, no middleman, no conversion, just gold changing hands.

States with active Goldback economies

Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Idaho all have active Goldback series — and local merchant acceptance tends to follow.

Where to find accepting merchants

The best place to find local businesses that take Goldbacks is the official directory at goldback.com. Listings include restaurants, shops, services, and more organized by state.

How does it work at checkout?

Goldbacks function like cash. You hand over the denomination, the merchant accepts it at the agreed exchange rate (usually the daily spot-based Goldback rate), and that's it. No app, no account, no processing fee.

What's the exchange rate?

The Goldback rate updates daily based on gold spot price. As of today, 1 Goldback = approximately 1/1000 troy oz of .9999 fine 24k gold. Check the live rate at the top of our shop.

Can I use Goldbacks online?

Not widely yet — acceptance is primarily in-person. GoldATM machines let you buy Goldbacks with cash, and our online shop ships anywhere in the US.
