Arizona Goldbacks: frequently asked questions
What denominations does the Arizona Goldback series include?
We carry Arizona Goldbacks in eight denominations: the ½, 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 Goldback. That range runs from 1/2,000 to 1/10 of a troy ounce of gold, so you can start with one small note or build a full set. There are no order minimums.
How much gold is in an Arizona Goldback?
Each Arizona Goldback holds a fixed amount of .9999 fine 24k gold, set by its denomination. The ½ holds 1/2,000 of a troy ounce, the 1 holds 1/1,000, the 10 holds 1/100 and the 100 holds 1/10. The gold is physically embedded in the note through a patented vacuum deposition process.
What is on the Arizona Goldback artwork?
The ½ shows Fides (Faith) at Mission San Xavier del Bac, and the 2 follows the 1869 Powell expedition through the Grand Canyon. The 5 is set at Tombstone's O.K. Corral, the 50 honors the discovery of Pluto at Lowell Observatory, and the 100 honors the Navajo Code Talkers at Window Rock.
Does an Arizona Goldback hold the same gold as other state series?
Yes. Gold content depends on the denomination, not the state. A 1 Arizona Goldback holds the same 1/1,000 troy ounce of .9999 fine 24k gold as a 1 from Utah or Idaho. What changes from series to series is the artwork. Goldbacks from every state series spend at participating merchants across the Goldback network.
How do I verify an Arizona Goldback?
The Arizona series launched in 2025, so every note carries UV-reactive ink on the reverse. Under a 365 nm UV light, the denomination and Goldback logo glow. Every Goldback also has microprinting, raised imagery on the back and a unique serial number. Our guide on how to verify your Goldbacks walks through each check.
